ON THE PIER

D-Day 75

On Thursday 6th June, 200 re-enactors will follow the exact embarkation routes marched by soldiers, sailors and airmen 75 years ago. Local schools along the route are also joining in with the moving commemoration by singing songs from the era as the troops march by.

The re-enactment will start from the Mountbatten Centre at 8am and follow two routes through the city before meeting at South Parade Pier at 9.45am where a lone piper will play. This will be followed by a Remembrance Service at the D-Day stone opposite the pier at 10.45am.

We invite you all to share this moving commemoration by supporting along the route or joining the service. For the route, timing and the roads they will march down visit

South Parade Pier owners Tommy Ware and Bob Pettett are providing a free lunch for 200 heroic veterans to help commemorate this important occasion as we remember the 119 men from Portsmouth and all the other brave men that were killed between D-Day and the end of the Battle of Normandy fighting for our freedom. We will remember them.
